Michael Zislis has built an impressive legacy of beloved hospitality brands that blend community, creativity, and care.

His journey began at age 13 with a homemade beer for a school project, sparking a lifelong passion that led him to open one of California’s first craft breweries, the Manhattan Beach Brewing Company, and help launch more than 140 breweries worldwide. In 2000, he introduced Rock’N Fish, a Manhattan Beach favorite known for its warm hospitality and bold flavors. Four years later, Michael redefined coastal luxury with Shade Hotel, the South Bay’s first boutique hotel, later expanding to Redondo Beach’s waterfront in 2016.

He continued to elevate the local dining scene with The Strand House, an oceanfront restaurant celebrating farm-fresh coastal fine dining. In 2012, Michael co-founded Rock & Brews, the rock-inspired restaurant and entertainment brand that now spans 20+ locations across the U.S. and beyond. A passionate philanthropist, Michael actively supports causes focused on health, education, and the environment, including Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Manhattan Beach Education Foundation and Growing Great.
